Gov. Rick Scott appointed Gordon Murray, a magistrate and child support hearing officer, to the Miami-Dade County Court bench.

Murray, 57, became a Miami-Dade magistrate in 2013. He was a solo practitioner for many years and also worked as a general magistrate for the cities of North Miami and South Miami.

The new county court judge, appointed late Monday, is a Miami native. He is also a double Hurricane, with bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Miami.

Murray is on the family law rules committee of the Florida Bar, which also recognized him in 2010 with the President's Pro Bono Service Award.

Murray fills the vacancy created by Judge Lourdes Simon's elevation to the Miami-Dade Circuit Court.
