MOTOR VEHICLE

BROWARD CIRCUIT COURT

A jury in Broward County awarded $192,165 to a driver who claimed permanent injuries from a collision in a parking lot in Coconut Creek.

In January 2015, Lorna Stennett, 56, was waiting at a stop sign in a shopping-center parking lot when another vehicle turned left and struck her car head on. She was diagnosed with a herniation of spinal disc L4-5 and received chiropractic care. She claimed she was laid off from work because of her injury and she has daily pain.

The other driver, Saul Dreier, conceded negligence, but his counsel argued with support from an expert orthopedist that Stennett suffered only a bulging disc and was not seriously hurt. The jury awarded Stennett damages for lost earnings, medical costs and pain and suffering.
