Miami's former Sedgwick partners Kimberly Cook and Valerie Shea have landed at Miami's Goldberg Segalla.

The two are among a group of five lawyers who were with Sedgwick's Miami office at the time it announced it would close this month—down from about twice that number just over a year ago. Other attorneys at Sedgwick's Florida office have found homes elsewhere. Partner Christopher J.M. Collings headed over to Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr, and partner Alfred Warrington V landed at Clyde & Co.

Cook, formerly the managing partner at Sedgwick's Miami office, focuses her practice on professional and product liability, medical malpractice and complex commercial litigation. She's been counsel for medical professionals and health-related businesses, and represented health care providers in claims brought by the Florida Department of Health Administration.

Cook is also the wife of former Florida Bar Association President Ramon Abadin, also a former Sedgwick Miami partner. Abadin is now in solo practice in Coral Gables, where he said he hopes to use technology to make his firm and legal work more efficient.

Cook and Shea, who started at Goldberg Segalla Jan. 2, will be part of the firm's general liability and global insurance services practice groups.

Shea's practice focuses on representing insurers in coverage and bad-faith actions and advising them on coverage policies as well as employment and labor matters, professional liability, product liability, and complex and multiparty commercial litigation. She has also represented insurers, automotive dealers and product manufacturers in high-value tort actions. She has also represented employers in discrimination actions and professionals sued for professional liability and commercial claims.
