Greenspoon Marder, looking to strengthen its presence in the New York market, has expanded to New Jersey with the hire of a partner and two associates who specialize in immigration law.

The firm recruited Nair Law Group president and managing partner Nandini Nair, senior associate Arti Desai and associate Michael Bergman. The three attorneys will remain in their current offices in Iselin, New Jersey.

Nair focuses her practice on the analysis and processing of U.S. nonimmigrant visas, employment-based and family-based green card applications, audits and compliance and other immigration benefits. Nair also advises on complex immigration strategy and corporate policy development, movement of global talent, training and compliance, immigration consequences of mergers, acquisitions and other corporate changes.

Desai specializes in immigration and nationality law in representing business and corporate clients in all matters of employment-based immigration. Bergman's practice focuses on U.S. immigration and nationality law.

Greenspoon Marder's deputy managing partner Rebecca Bratter said the firm's six immigration attorneys make up a small but important part of the firm's business, not only because of location but also because it is an extension of the firm's corporate practice.

The firm's immigration and naturalization practice represents Fortune 500 companies, startups, universities, governmental agencies and individual investors and high net worth individuals seeking foreign talent.

Greenspoon Marder has seen exponential growth in the last several years by following the growth of the legalized marijuana industry. Bratter said the firm has not changed its strategy in light of recent talks of a federal crackdown on legalized marijuana. In fact, it plans to expand its representation in that industry, she said.
