The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office is set to hold a Feb. 14 public sale of personal property belonging to Miami Beach developer Thomas Kramer, the venture capitalist whose luxury projects included Portofino Tower and Apogee South Beach.

Kramer is the famed German-born developer and construction tycoon who once owned two mansions on Star Island, where celebrity residents included singer Gloria Estefan and former basketball player Shaquille O'Neal. His financial woes seem tied to a $200 million judgment against him in a Swiss court, according to an article his former in-house writer published in the Miami New Times.

The once-prolific developer's projects offered multimillion-dollar condominiums, credited with turning South Beach into an internationally known hotspot. For instance, units listed for sale at the 44-story Portofino Tower have asking prices of up to $8.6 million.

But an auction notice published Tuesday is the latest sign of Kramer's reversal of fortune.

“Exceptional, one-of-a-kind luxury items representing Kramer's well-known extravagant celebrity lifestyle are available for sale,” according to the marketing material listing high-end European furniture, life-size collectible sculptures and statues, restaurant equipment, antique rugs and mask collections among other items.

Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton attorney Latasha Gethers Hines is the attorney in charge of the sale, and Moecker Auctions Inc. is handling marketing.
