Gov. Rick Scott appointed two Miami-Dade prosecutors, Laura Shearon Cruz and Christina DiRaimondo, to the county court bench.

The Friday evening appointments fill the vacancies created by the elevation of Judges Ivonne Cuesta and Laura Anne Stuzin to the circuit court in October.

Both Cruz and DiRaimondo work for the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office. Cruz, 39, is a division chief who investigates homicides and handles hate crimes. She also worked as an insurance litigator and helped prosecute Florida Bar disciplinary matters.

A Coral Gables resident and double Tulane University grad, Cruz had also been campaigning for a judgeship since August.

DiRaimondo, 33, is felony division chief in the state attorney's office, where she has worked since graduating from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law. The Biscayne Park resident earned her bachelor's degree from Iona College.
