A Fort Myers judge resigned days after being arrested in a prostitution sting.

Sara Miles, a spokeswoman for the 20th Judicial Circuit, confirmed Circuit Judge Jay B. Rosman's resignation. News media reported he and five other men were arrested Friday during a Naples police undercover anti-prostitution operation.

Police say Rosman, 64, arranged to meet an undercover officer at a hotel and agreed to pay $300 for a sex act. The Fort Myers judge was placed under arrest and freed on $4,000 bail.

He was on paid leave starting Monday, and Chief Judge Michael T. McHugh was covering his civil calendar.

Rosman's attorney said resigning was the best decision for his family. He is married to a Naples attorney, and they have three children.

Rosman was appointed as a Lee County Court judge in 1986 and become a circuit judge in 1992. He served as chief circuit judge from 2011 to 2015. He previously worked as an assistant state attorney, assistant public defender and a private practitioner.
