Probate Judge Charles M. Greene granted an order for an emergency petition to stop the Broward Public Defender's Office from interfering in a civil case involving accused Parkland school shooter Nikolas Cruz.

The Public Defender's Office is representing Cruz, who faces 17 counts of premeditated murder for the Valentine's Day shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

But attorneys representing Cruz in a civil case—involving the administration of his dead mother's estate—filed pleadings accusing the Public Defender's Office of denying them access to Cruz, while he awaits trial in jail.

“The Broward County Public Defender's Office shall not interfere with counsel's right to speak with Nikolas Cruz regarding this pending probate case,” Greene ruled.
