MOTOR VEHICLE

PALM BEACH CIRCUIT COURT

A jury rejected a plaintiff's claim that a collision in Palm Beach County was the fault of a driver who went through a broken traffic signal.

In 2014, Linda Colvin, a retiree in her 60s, was a passenger in a vehicle driven by her grandson on Lake Worth Road. As they turned left turn onto a Florida's Turnpike ramp, they were broadsided. Colvin hurt a nerve in her right ankle and had decompression surgery. Colvin alleged the other driver, Matthew Fraser, was negligent. The intersection had a broken traffic signal. Colvin's grandson had a blinking red light, while Fraser had a blinking yellow light. Colvin claimed Fraser, like other drivers, should have stopped at the malfunctioning lights. The jury rendered a defense verdict.
