The head of the Dade County Bar Association won a spot on the Florida Bar board of governors, a 52-member group that creates bar policy and selects the executive director.

Jordan Dresnick will take office June 15 for a two-year term. He defeated Colson Hicks Eidson partner Patrick S. Montoya 1,692-1,577 in a runoff election for Seat 3, according to the Florida Bar.

“I am honored and humbled to be elected to the Florida Bar board of governors,” Dresnick said via email Wednesday. “I look forward to serving and will do my very best on the board of governors for all lawyers.”

Four unopposed attorneys won seats on the board, including two South Florida lawyers who won when their opponents withdrew.

Dresnick's predecessor, former Dade County Bar Association president Jeffrey Rynor of Mitrani, Rynor, Adamsky & Toland in Miami Beach, will rise to Seat 5 for the Miami-Dade Circuit.

And a West Palm Beach litigator, Searcy Denney Scarola Barnhart & Shipley shareholder Rosalyn Sia Baker-Barnes, will represent Palm Beach Circuit.

Dresnick and Montoya first faced off in March among candidates running for eight contested seats on the board.

Dresnick outpaced the competition in that race but not by enough for an outright win. He got 1,130 votes, compared with Montoya's 710; Shook, Hardy & Bacon partner Alexandra Bach Lagos' 705; and Immigration and Customs Enforcement attorney Maria T. Armas' 251.

The results sent Dresnick and Montoya to the runoff. This time, when voting closed Monday, Dresnick took the seat on the board governing the 106,000-member bar.
