Veteran Holland & Knight litigator Dominic C. MacKenzie has been chosen executive director of the Florida Bar Foundation effective Aug. 20.

MacKenzie, who served on the foundation board for eight years and was president in 2015-2016, said he was honored to be chosen after a national search. The foundation is a charity formed by the Florida Bar to focus on greater access to justice and legal aid.

“Donny's deep commitment to increasing access to justice and his proven effectiveness as a leader make him the obvious choice to manage the foundation in its ambitious goals to expand its role as an expert facilitator of civil legal assistance and to serve as a catalyst for systemic change,” said Juliette E. Lippman, foundation president-elect.

MacKenzie has served on several foundation committees and has a long history of providing civil legal aid. He has been a member of the Florida Commission on Access to Civil Justice since 2014 and co-founded the Campaign to Maintain Justice in Jacksonville in 1995.

At Holland & Knight, he was the Jacksonville office's pro bono partner, and he was named the firm's Pro Bono MVP Partner in 2006.

He won the Florida Bar President's Pro Bono Award for the Fourth Circuit in 1998. He was the 2016 recipient of the Robert J. Beckham Equal Justice Award from Jacksonville Area Legal Aid and serves on its board. He also was named to the Florida Justice Technology Center board.

MacKenzie has served on a number of Florida Bar committees, including the rules of civil procedure, Florida Code and rules of evidence, rules of judicial administration and professionalism committees.

He replaces Bruce B. Blackwell, who served as executive director since 2014.
