A new Miami-Dade County civil courthouse will rise on a half-acre west of the historic Flagler Street building despite Mayor Carlos Gimenez’s push to build next to the Children’s Courthouse.

Miami-Dade Chief Circuit Judge Bertila Soto said building the new courthouse across Northwest First Avenue on a parking lot and park space is in line with a master plan and pays homage to Miami’s history.
