Netherlands-based affordable luxury hotel chain citizenM announced plans Wednesday to open a 348-room hotel at Miami Worldcenter.

Plans have been filed with the city for a 12-story, 128,000-square-foot hotel on Northeast Second Avenue between Seventh and Eighth streets next to the mixed-used development's open-air pedestrian retail promenade.

Gensler Architects designed the hotel with a pool deck, fitness center and rooftop bar. The hotel also will feature 1,850 square feet of creative spaces and meeting rooms.

Ernest Lee, U.S. managing director of development and investment for citizenM, said the company focuses on travelers to live-work-play destinations in the world's gateway cities.

Nitin Motwani, managing principal for Miami Worldcenter Associates, said the hotel “is in line with our grand vision, the likes of which Miami has never seen before.”

The first phase of the 10-block, $2 billion development is set to open this year, including the 60-story Paramount condominium, the 444-unit CAOBA apartment tower and a retail segment.

The first hotel opened by citizenM was in 2008 at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport, and the company projects about 40 properties open or under development by 2020. Its first U.S. hotel opened in New York, plans have been submitted for three hotels in Miami and Miami Beach, and a dozen are set for North America.
