Ricardo A. Ampudia has joined the Miami office of Shook, Hardy & Bacon as of counsel in its global arbitration practice.

Ampudia, who speaks four languages, has represented clients in the Americas, Africa, Asia and Europe in the construction, energy, infrastructure and hospitality and other industries. Shook's arbitration practice is part of its general liability litigation practice.

He brought with him two bilateral investment treaty arbitrations, one on behalf of a U.S. construction company against Panama and another on behalf of an Argentine and Spanish hotel investor against Mexico.

Ampudia came to the firm from his own company, International Dispute Resources LLC in Fort Lauderdale, previously was with Weil, Gotshal & Manges in Washington, co-founded Georgetown International Arbitration Alumni and grew up in Latin America.

“More companies than ever are doing business globally,” said Shook Hardy chair Madeleine McDonough. “This presents opportunities and challenges. An advocate of Ricardo's vast experience will be beneficial for clients with international interests. He's a great addition.”

Ampudia's “addition reinforces our commitment to grow based on what our clients need. We look forward to expanding our Latin American and European experience,” said Miami co-managing partner William Geraghty.

Kansas City, Missouri-based Shook Hardy has 12 offices in the Untied States and London.
