A tenant received a jury award of $179,689 after a clogged drain caused him to fall in his shower and impale himself on a broken ceramic soap dish.
Jason Amado needed 29 sutures in his back and developed painful scarring. He claimed his landlord sent a handyman rather than a plumber to fix the drain after it had been reported weeks earlier.
The defense maintained the problem was fixed before Amado fell, his negligent behavior caused the fall, and Amado recovered well.
