Gabriel Groisman, founder of Groisman Law and mayor of the Village of Bal Harbour, will be presented with the 2018 Pursuit of Justice award on Dec. 10 in New York City.

Past recipients of the award, presented by the American Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists to an attorney, judge or law professor who advances human rights, include Supreme Court Justices Stephen Breyer, Elena Kagan and Ruther Bader Ginsburg .

Groisman will be recognized, in part, for his sponsorship of the first municipal anti-Boycott, Divest and Sanctions (BDS) ordinance in the United States. The 2015 Bal Harbour ordinance prohibits the municipality from engaging with a business or organization that is boycotting Israel.

“I am incredibly humbled for being selected to receive this prestigious award,” Groisman said. “But, more than anything I feel emboldened to continue down this path. And, I am more confident than ever that as lawyers, we have a strong voice and that we must use our skill set to stand up for issues of importance in our society.”
