Attorney General-elect Ashley Moody, a former Hillsborough circuit judge, added two attorneys to key staff positions Wednesday.

John Guard will serve as chief deputy attorney general after serving most recently as a partner at Quarles & Brady in Tampa. He focused on commercial, real property and trust litigation, and helped clients with government investigations, civil investigative demands and internal investigations. Guard is a former federal prosecutor in Tampa, practiced law at Holland & Knight for seven years and clerked for U.S. District Judge James S. Moody  Jr. in Tampa.

Richard Martin was named general counsel after serving as an Akerman partner in Tampa, where he practiced law for over 14 years. He primarily defended financial institutions. The Lakeland native clerked for U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson in Pensacola.

In other appointments, Dan Olson was named governmental affairs director, 2017 Stetson law graduate Erica Geiger will serve as director of special projects and initiatives, and Lauren Schenone will serve as public affairs director. Whitney Ray will remain as communications director.
