MOTOR VEHICLE

A 28-year-old man who fractured a leg in a multiple vehicle crash received a $1 million pretrial settlement.

Pedro Castellon's tractor-trailer struck Johnson Dorvil's car, sending it into a dump truck owned by USA Transport Inc. The car then bounced off the dump truck and crashed into a wall. Dorvil underwent surgery on a fractured femur one day after the crash, followed by more than two months of physical therapy. While the surgery initially appeared to be healing well, an independent medical exam concluded Dorvil had developed a fibrous nonunion that might require additional surgery and physical therapy. Dorvil claimed he is unable to run, ride a bike or play sports as he did before the crash.
