Shutts & Bowen partner John Meagher has been named managing partner of the firm's Miami office and will assume leadership this month.

Meagher is the chairman of the firm's insurance practice group. He will oversee the day-to-day management of the 120-attorney office, the firm's largest.

“Shutts & Bowen had another record year in 2018 and our Miami office was a major contributor to the firm's success,” Michael Grindstaff, Shutts & Bowen's firmwide managing partner, said in a statement. “John is deeply familiar with the business and legal issues facing South Florida. His local knowledge, combined with his demonstrated leadership, strategic focus, and reputation for exceptional client service will greatly benefit the firm.”

Indeed, the firm had a blockbuster 2018, with gross revenues climbing nearly 11 percent as the firm added 42 attorneys to its ranks.

Meagher joined Shutts & Bowen in 1985. His practice focuses on defending insurance companies in trial and appellate actions in state and federal court. He succeeds the firm's tax and international group co-chair Francis Rodriguez, who took over in 2014.
