Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr will move from downtown Miami to a Brickell office embracing the latest trends in law firm designs.

This includes same-size offices for all attorneys regardless of seniority as well as more meeting and event space.

Saul Ewing will move from the Southeast Financial Center to a 17th-floor space at 701 Brickell Ave. next February.

All 47 of Miami personnel — 29 attorneys plus staff — will be moving to the new 22,400-square-foot space.

It will be 4,500 square feet smaller than the existing office, reflecting an office space trend toward smaller footprints across industry sectors.

Saul Ewing will become at least the fourth South Florida law firm to implement same-size offices, and its meeting and event spaces will collectively be three times bigger.

“The driving forces behind this move are to modernize our office and offer more collaborative and event spaces,” partner Luis Flores in Miami said in an email. “The new offices will be used to promote the firm's expansive areas of practice and to showcase the talent we have, as well as the services we provide our clients.”

Other firms opting for identical office space say it was an initiative to get away from internal politicking, and the egalitarian approach appeals to new hires, helping the firms attract talent.

Akerman made the switch in 2016 when it moved from downtown's SunTrust International Center to Brickell City Centre. Kelley Kronenberg is planning a uniform 144-square-foot office size at its new Davie space when it moves this summer. Berger Singerman also is planning equal-sized offices at its new space at The Main Las Olas, a mixed-use project that will include a 25-story office tower under construction in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

Flores declined to disclose the lease rate for the Brickell space but said the the firm signed a 12-year lease.

The new space allows for future growth, but Flores didn't provide specifics on the firm's plans for new hires.

“The new offices will afford us space to continue the growth we have been enjoying. As for hiring new attorneys, we are looking to expand so we may offer our clients more depth and resources,” he said.

Saul Ewing has 16 offices in the U.S. and has been in downtown Miami for 15 years.
