Rumberger Kirk & Caldwell partner Gregory Palmer, 56, died on Friday, according to the firm.

The cause of death was not disclosed.

Palmer, who joined Rumberger in 2003, was a dedicated advocate and counselor to his clients and colleagues, the firm said. He was board certified in civil trial law by The Florida Bar and a member of the firm's executive committee. He represented clients across a broad and diverse range of industries, serving as a leader and mentor within the firm's aviation law and litigation, construction and product liability practice groups.

Palmer was lauded by the Daily Business Review in 2008 as one of South Florida's “Most Effective Litigators.”

He was renowned for his knowledge of the various international treaties and conventions impacting aviation. He lectured extensively on the Warsaw Convention and its progeny.

Defending clients against claims arising during international transport, Palmer litigated a variety of issues including complex negligence claims, unlawful restraint allegations and security-related matters including unlawful search and seizure allegations.

The firm said Palmer never shied away from a challenge — both in and out of the courtroom. An avid mountain biker, Palmer overcame obstacles, riding on some of the most difficult trails.

“Greg was an extraordinary attorney, colleague and friend,” Rumberger Managing Partner Frank Sheppard said in a statement. “He will be remembered for his devotion to all of those he served and truly missed. We hope the Miami legal community will join us in celebrating his life and supporting his family at this difficult time.”

Palmer is survived by his wife, Kimberly, and his three sons: Taylor, Thomas and Patrick.
