A retired Boca Raton lawyer was sentenced to more than two years imprisonment for his participation in a scheme to inflate the value of a Florida beauty products company.

Mark Fisher was sentenced 28 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams on Friday. Fisher was also ordered  to forfeit $8.4 million as well serve three years of supervised release following prison.

The former securities lawyer had pleaded guilty to a felony count of conspiracy to commit securities fraud. Fisher was accused by federal prosecutors of taking part in a 2014 plot to deceive investors regarding the value of Valentine Beauty Inc., a Sunrise-based cosmetics business. The October 2018 complaint filed against Fisher contended he acted as Valentine Beauty's attorney and made deliberate misrepresentations about the company in order to increase the trading price and volume.

Davie resident and stock promoter Joseph Capuozzo was named as a co-defendant in the complaint against Fisher. He was sentenced to five years of probation in April after entering a guilty plea.

On Feb. 28, the Florida Supreme Court  granted Fisher's petition for disciplinary revocation, effectively disbarring him.

Kreiss Law Firm attorney Jason Kreiss served as Fisher's legal counsel in the case. In an emailed statement Kreiss told the Daily Business Review, “Mr. Fisher is looking forward to putting this situation behind him and moving on with his life.”
