Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Yery Marrero

    Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Yery Marrero was formally sworn in at a ceremonial investiture following her election to an open seat on the court. She is serving in a children's court division. The native of Cuba who was brought to the United States by her parents when she was 3. Her father was in law school when the family left, so Marrero's career in law fulfilled a family dream. The former criminal defense attorney and assistant public defender practiced law for 28 years before her election last August. She served as a traffic magistrate and on a Florida Bar grievance committee. Marrero also served on the national board of the Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund and was a member of the criminal justice section of the American Bar Association.
