Self-made real estate magnate Edie Laquer has sold her penthouse in Miami's Yacht Harbour Condominium, the last of her residential investments, for $1.05 million.
Laquer sold the 18th-story, custom-furnished unit with a wraparound terrace in a cash transaction to William H. Minchew on June 18.
Laquer bought the penthouse in 2000 for $405,000, lived there for a short time, turned it into a rental property and recently put it on the market.
The broker-investor put her own touches on the 2,400-square-foot home, turning the three-bedroom, three-bathroom into a one-bedroom, two-bathroom unit to open up more of the unit to views of Biscayne Bay and Coconut Grove.
“I just didn't want any walls to block the views from any area,” said Laquer, adding the unit offers 200-degree views.
The penthouse exudes Laquer's style with mahogany and cherry wood accents.
“I don't ever decorate as most Floridians do,” said Laquer, who opts for deep tones, wood, leather, suede and animal prints.
“I guess it's New York vibe, a little bit more drama,” said Laquer, who lives at the St. Regis Bal Harbour.
Yacht Harbour, at 2901 S. Bayshore Drive, was designed by architect Kenneth Treister to resemble a yacht viewed from above.
Laquer, born in Paris and raised in Toronto by Holocaust survivors, made a name for herself in Miami as a real estate broker. For the past seven years, she has scaled back this work to focus on philanthropies and real estate investments in commercial properties.
ONE Sotheby's International Realty's Jessica Adams, who recently started her own group at the real estate company, brokered the transaction on behalf of Laquer.
