Car Crash

MOTOR VEHICLE

ST. LUCIE CIRCUIT COURT

A jury awarded nearly $268,000 to an information technology worker after his SUV was hit by an out-of-control car, resulting in disc-replacement surgery.

Robert Buckner was stopped at an intersection on Oct. 21, 2015, when a motorist tried to make a quick turn and lost control of her car, which spun over the median and collided with Buckner's SUV. He suffered herniated discs. Buckner was recommended for disc replacement but hoped to avoid it. He had the operation three years after the accident.

The jury found Buckner suffered a permanent injury and awarded him $267,608.58.
