Gov. Ron DeSantis asked the Florida Supreme Court for an advisory opinion Friday on when ex-felons can register to vote under a constitutional amendment passed last November.

Amendment 4 opened the door for voter registration after the ”completion of all terms of sentence,” but the meaning of that phrase has been contested. A key question is whether the payment of court-ordered fees, fines and restitution is required before registration.
