After an eight-day jury trial, Pompano Beach man Kenneth Frank, 56, was convicted of posing as an attorney without having the law license to back it up.

Frank charged clients thousands to file documents in foreclosure, real estate and other cases, and filed false liens against several properties, according to the Broward State Attorney’s Office.

Jurors found Frank guilty of two counts of unlicensed practice of law, five counts of fraudulently simulating legal process, five counts of unlawfully filing false documents, two counts of grand theft, one count of uttering a forged instrument and one count of organized scheme to defraud. He was acquitted of two counts of grand theft.

Assistant State Attorneys Justin McCormack and Jessalynn Rubio prosecuted the case, and Broward Circuit Judge Barbara Duffy has yet to sentence the defendant, who had claimed he had presented himself as a businessman, not an attorney.

Broward Public Defenders David Wheeler, Lindsay Lawrence and Lien Lafargue have moved for downward departure from sentencing guidelines, which recommend more than 11 and a half years for Frank. They declined to comment.

Frank was arrested in March 2017 and has been in jail ever since.
