PREMISES LIABILITY

MIAMI-DADE CIRCUIT COURT

A Miami apartment complex that was the scene of a double homicide settled with the estates of two men found shot to death in a car parked at the complex southeast of the Golden Glades interchange.

The identity and motive of the shooter were never determined. The estates's counsel argued the complex's security booth was unstaffed before, during and after the shooting.

The defense argued the two visitors were victims of a targeted shooting that could not have been prevented. The parties negotiated a pretrial settlement with the defendant's insurer agreeing to pay each estate $845,000.
