Florida International University College of Law had the highest passing rate for July's Florida Bar Exam, according to results released Monday.

FIU had the greatest percentage—95.7%—of students pass the exam, with 111 of the 116 succeeding, according to information from the Florida Board of Bar Examiners.

The University of Florida Levin College of Law followed FIU, with a passage rate of 87.9%, while Florida State University College of Law came in third place with 86.8% of its candidates succeeding.

University of Miami School of Law ranked fourth, with nearly 81% of its 213 candidates passing the bar exam.

Ave Maria School of Law, with a passage rate of 52.6% among its 38 law school students, had the lowest result.

Improvement at UF

University of Florida Law Dean Laura Rosenbury said she and the law program were "very encouraged" by the numbers.

"The Florida Bar exam is one of the most difficult bar exams in the country, and we commend all of our graduates who diligently prepared for the exam this summer," she said.

The results continue an upward trend for the school following the February 2018 bar exam, wherein only 7 of 22 —or 31.8% — of test-takers passed.

"Over the next several days, we will reach out to those who did not pass to help them develop individualized plans for passing the February bar exam," Rosenbury continued. "For now, we congratulate those who passed, and we look forward to even better results in the future."

Florida State University Law Dean Erin O'Hara O'Connor noted that FSU's exam passage rate had also risen. She said this was the third year of consecutive growth in FSU's numbers.

"These results are an indication that our bar support efforts continue to be successful," O'Hara O'Connor said. "We are extremely proud of our new graduates, and look forward to watching them flourish in their careers."

Requests for comment from the Ave Maria School of Law and University of Miami's law schools were not immediately returned.

Antony Page, the dean of FIU College of Law, said he and the school's faculty were "very happy" with the results.

"It's even higher than in recent years," he said. FIU College of Law has consistently ranked in recent years as the Florida school with the highest passage rate for the state's bar exam. Page attributed the school's success to its "highly motivated, dedicated students" and the "rigorous legal education" offered by its professors.

"Together we get really good results," he said, adding he was thrilled the school broke the 95% barrier.

Although he acknowledged FIU's impressive rates, Page stressed his intention is to make sure each student with the law school excels on the exam, even if they didn't get it on the first try.

"It's wonderful to have a small number of students who'll take it again, and I'd like to emphasize we'll be helping those students who didn't pass get it next time," Page said.  "We want to make sure all of our students pass."
