MEDICAL MALPRACTICE

SARASOTA CIRCUIT COURT

A jury ruled for a doctor who was sued by the estate of a 75-year-old man with a fractured arm who allegedly developed a fatal infection at the fracture site.

John Green was treated by Dr. Tracy Ng at the Orthopaedic Center of Venice in October 2015. Ng opted against surgery because Green had significant health issues, including diabetes. In Ng's estimation, the fracture was closed and required only a brace. Days later, Ng was diagnosed with an open fracture and underwent surgery. He died the next month after developing sepsis.

The defense argued the fracture wound was contaminated but not infected. The widow asked for an award of $4.6 million, but the jury issued a defense verdict, ruling Ng was not negligent.
