Fowler White Burnett will move its downtown Fort Lauderdale office a block away by year-end to an office tower on Las Olas Boulevard.

The firm's 10 attorneys and 11 support staff members will move from the 21st floor office at One Financial Plaza south of Broward Boulevard to the 21-story tower at 200 E. Las Olas Blvd.

Fowler White Burnett's new space will be 8,000 square feet, slightly smaller than its current 10,000-square-foot office.

The shrinkage reflects a law firm trend of cutting out space previously taken by libraries and paper files and relying more on technology and digitized files.

Richard Wood, co-managing shareholder based in Miami, touted the emphasis on modernity and collaborative spaces in the new office.

"The new office presents the latest in technological and office enhancements that will meet the needs of our clients and lawyers," he said in a news release.

Another trend in law offices is same-sized offices regardless of seniority, although Fowler White embraced this concept before it became more popular in recent years. Fowler White strived for equal-sized offices in the late 1990s as long as the layout allowed it, Wood said in an email.

Stiles Corp., the Fort Lauderdale developer founded by Howard Stiles, developed the 281,713-square-foot 200 E. Las Olas tower in 1989 and completed a $2 million renovation last year.

Other tenants include Fifth Third Bank, Fortune 500 company Yum! Brands, Pernod Ricard USA LLC and content delivery network and cloud service provider Akamai Technologies Inc.

Fowler White renewed its lease for its West Palm Beach office at the Northbridge Centre penthouse in July. The 73-attorney firm has three offices.
