PINELLAS CIRCUIT COURT

A jury awarded more than $650,000 to a real estate broker who crashed into the side of a municipal garbage truck while driving through a St. Petersburg intersection.

Tierra Archer, who was 28 at the time of the accident in August 2014, said she was unable to avoid the truck after it pulled in front of her. She claimed injuries to spinal discs and a laceration that left a disfiguring knee scar.

Archer sued the truck driver's employer, the city of St. Petersburg, which conceded liability based on right of way but contended Archer's injuries were not related to the accident. The jury set damages at $655,693.
