A Florida appellate court’s reversal of a $38 million judgment against an oil company executive has raised questions about jurisdiction, federal prosecutions and how to remedy an alleged breach under an agreement that doesn’t specify damages.

It also could impact a New York criminal case in which prosecutors charged a litigant with wire fraud and other crimes for allegedly hiding millions in a foreign trust to keep it out of his wife’s reach during divorce proceedings.
