Raquel "Rocky" Rodriguez, former general counsel to Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, has left McDonald Hopkins' Miami office, where she was managing partner, to join Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney.
Rodriguez, who joins Buchanan Ingersoll as a partner, spent more than eight years with McDonald Hopkins. The Cleveland-based firm has a West Palm Beach and Miami office with a total of 11 attorneys, according to its website. From late 2002 to early 2007, Rodriguez was former Gov. Bush's general counsel.
McDonald Hopkins wished Rodriguez well in her new job.
"We appreciate everything Rocky contributed to our firm since she joined us in 2011," McDonald Hopkins president Shawn Riley said. "Rocky is moving on to a new firm, but she will always be a friend and colleague and we wish her all of the best."
In 2016, Buchanan Ingersoll announced a "strategic affiliation" with Bush, wherein the former governor would act as a consultant for the firm's Florida clients.
"Joining Buchanan is a win-win move for me and my clients. There are a number of areas of expertise that have impressed me," Rodriguez said in a statement. "I also appreciate Buchanan's strategic relationship with former Governor Bush, and I look forward to helping continue growing the South Florida presence."
Rodriguez advises companies on health care and financial regulations, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act compliance and state and local government matters. She also has significant international arbitration experience.
In addition to Rodriguez, Goldberg Segalla bankruptcy attorney Daniel Gold has joined Buchanan as counsel. Outside of his bankruptcy work, Gold also represents clients who face professional liability claims.
"We are excited to welcome Rocky and Dan to Buchanan's Miami team," Jennifer Olmedo-Rodriguez, managing partner of Buchanan's Miami office, said in a statement. "Their background and experience further deepens our bench in South Florida and allows us to service our clients in the healthcare, life sciences and finance sectors right from our Miami office."
