A federal judge in Miami has granted the U.S. government’s request to halt proceedings in a $260 million legal malpractice lawsuit against a Los Angeles law firm and a New York partner because it could interfere with an active grand jury investigation relating to an EB-5 visa fraud.

The lawsuit against Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp and partner David Gordon will be stayed until Nov. 13, 2020, or whenever federal prosecutors conclude a separate, ongoing case against Jay Peak owner Ariel Quiros of Miami, Quiros adviser William Kelly and former Jay Peak CEO William Stenger, U.S. District Judge Marcia Cooke ruled Dec. 13.
