MOTOR VEHICLE

MIAMI-DADE CIRCUIT COURT

A teacher agreed to a $650,000 settlement of a lawsuit after a car collision blamed on a motorist running a red light at a turnpike ramp and Southwest 216th Street in south Miami-Dade County.

Keith Zawacki, who was 47 at the time of the October 2017 accident, was diagnosed with a concussion, brain damage and post-traumatic headaches. He said the accident forced him on to medical leave because he was in constant pain and it was difficult for him to focus. He testified he took work leave because he felt his students deserved better.

The parties negotiated a pretrial settlement. Geico, the defendant's insurer, agreed to pay Zawacki $650,000.
