HILLSBOROUGH CIRCUIT COURT

A jury returned a defense verdict in a case involving a crash between a tractor mower and a sedan.

Donna Scuiga, a paralegal in her 40s, was driving near U.S. 41 in Ruskin when her car collided with the tractor mower in December 2015. She claimed neck and back injuries, and underwent disc replacement surgery in April 2017, which she attributed to the crash. She sued mower operator Gonzalo Lopez Sanchez and his employer, Great Bay Landscape Services Inc., seeking more than $2 million in damages.

The defense claimed Scuiga should have been able to avoid the mower, that the force of the crash was not sufficient to cause her injuries and her back issues were preexisting. The jury sided with the defense.
