Shook, Hardy & Bacon partner Humberto Ocariz and attorney Jennifer Newton, who was director of risk advisory for Kaufman Rossin, have joined Greenberg Traurig's Miami office.

Ocariz joins the firm's litigation practice as a shareholder. His former and current clients include American Airlines, Boeing, Nortel Networks, DuPont, Motorola and MAN Engine. Ocariz is also an experienced arbitrator and has been tapped to serve as an arbitrator for the International Chamber of Commerce International Court of Arbitration.

Newton joins the firm as a practice group attorney in the corporate practice and will also work in the firm's financial regulatory and compliance practice and the banking and financial services practice.

She advises banking and financial institutions on risk management and compliance on federal and state consumer protection laws and regulations. Newton also works in the financial technology and privacy space, advising clients on data security, privacy regulations and open banking.

In the last few months, Greenberg Traurig has attracted several laterals, including Akerman eminent domain attorney Mark Tobin and former interim U.S. Attorney Ben Greenberg. On Monday, the firm announced it had hired Kyle Freeny, a U.S. Department of Justice attorney who worked closely with special counsel Robert Mueller on the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, as well as possible ties between Russian government officials and the Trump campaign.
