PALM BEACH CIRCUIT COURT

A jury awarded more than $540,000 to man who was involved in a rear-end collision at a Palm Springs stop light.

Joseph Jellison, 50 at the time of the May 2016 accident, claimed he suffered back and neck injuries and was left with lower back pain that radiated to his legs. His family testified Jellison used to enjoy going to the movies, local events and restaurants but now mostly stays at home because of the pain.

The defense conceded liability in the accident, and Judge Donald Hafele issued a directed verdict for Jellison on causation. The jury awarded $540,312 in economic damages for lost income and past and future medical expenses, which may include surgery.
