PREMISES LIABILITY

PALM BEACH CIRCUIT COURT

A jury ruled in favor of a woman who broke an ankle in a fall at a gasoline station in 2015.

Gloria Cevallos claimed she slipped in gasoline, dirt and grime that had accumulated around a pump at a Lake Worth Speedway station. She required surgery and an inpatient course of rehabilitative therapy, and she claimed she is still unable to endure long walks.

The defense contended Cevallos fell because she was wearing sandals and not watching her step. The jury assigned 78 percent of the blame to Speedway, reducing the $342,120 award to $266,854.
