Former Greenberg Traurig insurance defense partners Brian Koch and Alaine Greenberg have joined Holland & Knight in its Fort Lauderdale and Miami offices respectively.

Greenberg first joined Greenberg Traurig in 2004 as shareholder and has litigated nearly 200 cases for her primary client, American Security Insurance Co. She is representing the insurance firm in 20 cases filed since Jan. 1, 2019, alone.

Koch handles insurance defense as well, representing American Security Insurance in several matters. He also handles general commercial litigation, working with clients including the Cheesecake Factory, Sonny's the CarWash Factory and the Scuttina Signature Real Estate Group in the past year.

The new hires come off Holland & Knight's pick ups of former Foley & Lardner insurance litigators Brandon Williams and Kalpesh Mehta in December, as well as the early 2019 addition of David Spector's 12-lawyer insurance and fraud litigation group from Akerman, where he was chairman for less than a year before stepping down in November 2018.

In total, the firm has nearly 80 litigators in South Florida.

"Alaine and Brian are highly regarded litigators who have a very substantial insurance defense practice," Adolfo Jimenez, head of Holland & Knight's South Florida litigation practice, said in a statement. "Their arrival at the firm solidifies our first-class insurance industry practice with the top practitioners in South Florida. We are thrilled to have them on our roster."

For the first time in its history, Holland & Knight's revenues broke a billion dollars in 2019. Greenberg Traurig, ranked at No. 14 last year on the Am Law 200, is no slouch either: Preliminary numbers submitted by the firm showed that revenues climbed to $1.65 billion last year.

Greenberg Traurig reached for comment on the two departures, said in a statement that the firm wishes them well and thanks them for their contributions.
