Gunster franchise practice leader Jason Murray has joined K&L Gates as a partner based in Miami.

Murray handles all aspects of franchising law as well as general commercial litigation. In the past two years, he has defended European Wax Center as well as VRsenal, a virtual reality company, in litigation.

In a Thursday announcement, Steven Weinstein, the managing partner of K&L Gates' Miami office, said Murray's "extensive experience in the franchise area serves as a valuable addition" to the firm's firmwide practice and the Miami office.

Murray first joined Gunster two years ago and has maintained a solo practice — Murray Law, P.A. — since 2012. Between 1997 and 2012, Murray worked at Carlton Fields, where he was shareholder. In 2015, he was elected for a one-year team as the 99th president of the Dade County Bar, the largest voluntary bar association in Florida.

Gunster did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the departure.
