Florida International University is not a name normally seen with the likes of Columbia and Vanderbilt in the law school world. But the Miami public university is sandwiched in between them in the rankings of schools with the highest bar exam pass rates for lawyer hopefuls at American Bar Association-accredited law schools. The rate of students passing on their first try climbed to 80% in 2019 from 75% the previous year, according to new ABA data. It's the first major gain in half a decade. Bar exam outcomes vary widely among the nation's 203 ABA-sanctioned schools. First-time pass rates ranged from a high of 99% to a low of 36% last year.
