It took a while to get to the ceremony, but Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Carlos Guzman was formally sworn in at an investiture ceremony. Guzman was elevated to the circuit bench in November 2018 after serving for six years in county court. He is a former chief assistant to the statewide prosecutor at the Florida attorney general's office, a Miami-Dade prosecutor and FBI agent. He also was in private practice with Stephens Lynn Klein handling medical and legal malpractice and other kinds of professional liability. Guzman created the Miami-Dade Mortgage Fraud Task Force while with the attorney general's office and served as vice president of the Conference of County Court Judges. In his off-hours, he hits the field as an NCAA Division 1 college football referee. Guzman is serving in a civil division. He succeeded Circuit Judge Ariana Fajardo Orshan, who now serves as U.S. attorney in Miami.
