WRONGFUL DEATH

HILLSBOROUGH CIRCUIT COURT

A jury declined to award damages to the estate of a man who was killed in a plane crash at Tampa's Peter O. Knight Airport moments after two Cessnas took off from intersecting runways in 2016.

Lawyers for the estate of financial services executive and general counsel Kevin Carreno maintained his pilot, a friend and former U.S. Air Force Academy classmate Louis Caporicci, was performing dangerous maneuvers.

The defense claimed the pilot of the other plane did not radio an intent to take off, which surprised Caporicci. He performed an evasive maneuver that resulted in a crash.

The jury found no negligence by Caporicci.
