Someone on This List Could Become South Florida's Next Appellate Judge

The Third District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission has named finalists to replace Judge Vance E. Salter, who is set to step down from the bench Aug. 31.
The commission submitted the six names Wednesday to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who could select one of the finalists or choose another candidate.
The finalist include: Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judges Antonio Arzola, Lisa S. Walsh and Alexander Bokor; Assistant Miami-Dade County Attorney Eduardo I. Sanchez; Boyd & Jenerette partner Kansas R. Gooden; and GrayRobinson shareholder Christopher N. Johnson.
|Antonio Arzola
Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Arzola is serving in the civil division. Before that, Arzola served as a judge in the Miami-Dade County Court. In private practice, Arzola worked at Murai, Wald, Biondo, Moreno & Brochin in Coral Gables, where he started his career in 1996.
Arzola holds an undergraduate degree from Florida International University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Miami.
|Lisa S. Walsh
Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Walsh is serving in the civil division and previously in the criminal and dependency divisions. Before becoming a judge, she had a private practice after beginning her career in 1992 at the Miami-Dade Public Defender's Office. Walsh earned her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and her law degree from the University of Miami.
|Alexander Bokor
Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Bokor is in the civil division and previously worked as an assistant county attorney at the Miami-Dade Attorney's Office. Before that role, Bokor was in private practice, most recently at Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton in Miami. He started his career at Jones Day in New York in 2002. Bokor earned his undergraduate degree from Southern Methodist University before earning his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
|Eduardo I. Sanchez
Sanchez is a counselor to the U.S. attorney, providing advice, analysis and guidance on legal and policy issues, strategic planning and training. He served for more than 10 years as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Southern District of Florida, focusing on the appellate division, economic crimes section and the major crime section. Sanchez earned his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Miami.
|Kansas Gooden
Gooden is a shareholder at Boyd & Jenerette, who works remotely in Miami, focusing her practice on appellate, trial and litigation support. Gooden previously worked at Walton, Lantaff, Schroeder & Carson, where she began her career in 2008. She earned her undergraduate degree at James Madison University and her Juris Doctor at St. Thomas University.
|Christopher N. Johnson
Johnson is a shareholder at GrayRobinson, focusing his practice on complex commercial litigation and arbitration, along with real estate litigation, creditors' rights and insurance law. Johnson previously worked at Hunton Williams as counsel, and began his career as a law clerk and associate at Coll, Davidson, Carter, Smith, Salter & Barkett in 1994. He earned his undergraduate degree from the U.S. Military Academy and his law degree from the University of Miami.
