US DISTRICT COURT, TAMPA

A jury issued a defense verdict in the case of a woman who claimed the air bags in her Ford Explorer were defectively designed.

Marcia Sills claimed she suffered a brain injury along with injuries to her face and rib cage in the January 2018 accident. The air bags did not deploy when she ran off a road and struck a tree. Her attorney argued her injuries would have been less severe if the air bags had deployed.

The defense contended the 2018 Explorer's air bag system performed as designed, given the force and speed of the crash. The defense also claimed Sills was negligent for failing to slow down for a curve despite warning signs. The jury found no negligence by Ford.
