A quick check of your social media feed, or the local news, and you will likely see another video of someone yelling or fighting in a store because they were told to put on a mask or leave. It is these incidents that scratch the surface as to how COVID-19 is poised to play a significant role in negligent security cases for the foreseeable future.

Walmart, Target, CVS and several other major national retailers will begin, or have already begun, requiring all customers to wear face coverings at their stores. These mandates from the private sector are increasingly beginning to fill a void left by inconsistent “guidance” from federal, state and local governments, and come at a time when the public is increasingly uncertain about what behaviors are/not safe as the first wave of coronavirus infections enters a robust second spike.
