U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams analyzed the hit song “Despacito” in a copyright lawsuit in the Southern District of Florida on Thursday, when she found its writers had not copied an earlier Spanish song with the same name.
It’s a case that demonstrates the boundaries of copyright law, as Williams found the lyrics contained too many common expressions and cliches for protection.
