When the Florida Board of Bar Examiners moved to change outdated language in its admission rules surrounding mental health and substance use disorders, alarm bells rang for Miami attorney Matthew Dietz of Disability Independence Group Inc. — not because of what’s mentioned, but because of what he says is left out.

Along with Disability Rights Florida, Dietz has argued that the Florida Board of Bar Examiners wrongly focuses on a disability itself when investigating bar applicants, rather than on any actual disqualifying conduct stemming from that disability.
